Radio Program Tomorrow

Rio Band Families,

Tomorrow (Wednesday) night, at 8pm 88.9 FM (our local NPR music station) will feature Rio’s own Hannah Oldfield as a guest DJ along with Gary Vercelli for an hour-long ‘Excellence in Jazz on Campus’ broadcast. Check it out if you can. The press release is copied below.

On Wednesday, May 18 at 8 p.m. ~ The Music Station – 88.9 – 91.7 – 88.7 ~ will
premiere “Excellence in Jazz on Campus” featuring guest DJ Hannah Oldfield, a senior
at Rio Americano High School, sitting in and selecting music with Gary Vercelli.
Hannah spoke with Gary about her passion for jazz and the role it plays in her
life. Hannah will be attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in
Boston this fall.

Hannah’s talents as a saxophonist and vocalist have been
nurtured by Rio’s award-winning music program under the direction of Josh
Murray. Oldfield has performed with Rio’s AM Jazz Band in New York City,
Monterey and Italy. This summer they travel to Japan. Oldfield cites Ella
Fitzgerald, Paul Desmond and Charles Mingus among her influences and plans to
pursue a career in music. “I spend most of my time practicing, composing,
and rehearsing with the various bands I’m in, so there’s not much time for
activities outside of music,” she says.
Oldfield did manage to spare an hour to spend with Gary Vercelli
for our new series, Excellence in Jazz on Campus.
