There are many levels of honor band, from regional to state, open to dedicated, hard-working and experienced students. Information on where to find applications is below. The deadline for all of them is November 30th.
Our Pep Band is being run very differently this year. All band students are required to participate in Pep Band at home football and (some) basketball games. The first football game will be on Saturday, September 14th. Band students are allowed into the game for free, and should arrive at noon. It should be over by 5pm.

We realize that there will be conflicts for some students, with other sports, family commitments, and more. We also realize that 9/14 is Yom Kippur, so some members will not be present as a result.
The band directors must account for every member of band at these events. If anyone will miss part or all of a Pep Band commitment for any reason, you must provide a written (not emailed) note from a parent at least a week prior to the event to the band directors. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.
From the Directors: Welcome to another year of musical excellence and community feeling in Rio Band. The directors are building the band email lists and have already sent some information to band families. The list is a work in progress, so please respond with any additions or modifications, or if you have not recieved an email, let Mr. Murray know at jomurray@sanjuan.edu . Email is a primary means of communication with families, so please take the time to read them.
The first general meeting of Rio Americano Band Boosters (RABB) will be at 7:15pm, next Tuesday, August 27th, in the band room. All parents (and students) are welcome and encouraged to attend. Getting involved in RABB is a great way to support your child’s musical education, while helping to maintain the standard of excellence we all have come to expect from Rio Band.

Please let us know if you have suggestions for other teachers to add to the list.
The year is off to a great start. Our returning students are augmented by an exceptionally enthusiastic and talented freshman class. Everyone has been positive and cooperative. The vibe in the band room is the best it’s been in years. It’s great to have the new kids and their families aboard!
